The purpose of this group is to foster the capacity of public health practitioners and programs to use best practice social marketing through discussions and the exchange of resources. Different from social media, social marketing uses commercial marketing principles and processes to lower the barriers and increase the benefits a population associates with a health, safety, environmental or civic behavior, in order to enable social change and improved well-being for populations and society.

The University of South Florida School of Public Health offers the best conference learning experience about social marketing in the US. Their 22nd annual conference will be June 13th-16th at the Sheraton Hotel, Sand Key Florida (outside Tampa). This includes a training academy on the 13th and 14th and the main conference on the 15th and 16th.
I have attended for 15 years and there is always something new and engaging! There is international attendence, including those new to social marketing to the people who write the books (literally), representing the public, non-profit, academic and private sectors. Great opportuities to network. Beg, borrow or steal to attend!
